Aspen is a vibrant ski resort city nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Sitting at the height of 2400 meters above sea level in the Elk Mountains and the Sawatch Range. The town of Aspen was established for its history in silver mining and has since grown steadily into the success of a popular ski resort.

Aspen itself if part of a region called the Aspen Snowmass, which links four ski areas: Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and Aspen Mountain (otherwise known as Ajax). These four areas cover an extensive 5300 acres of impressive ski terrain, with over 329 runs, some of which can be up to 5 miles long. Aspen is truly a skiers paradise and is not surprising that it is one of the world’s most famous and exciting ski resorts.

Fresh powder arrives from December, which means Aspen is brought to life from December to February. The ski conditions are at their best during this time, so you can really make the most of Aspen Snowmass. It is a popular time for the region, and the atmosphere heightens, and you get to feel a real buzz around the area.

June to August sees the main summer season, which is the perfect time to visit Aspen if you like mountain hiking or cycling. The temperatures are warm during this period, which is ideal for an invigorating walk through the mountains and valleys.

Best activities

During summer a popular place to visit is Maroon Bells. This is a favorite place to hike and it is easy to see why, with incredible vistas and perfect to watch the local wildlife. Whether you enjoy a casual lakeside stroll or an invigorating hike up to the peaks, Maroon Bells is must-see in Aspen

Wheeler Opera House was built in the 1800s and is still a fantastic performance venue. With authentic Victorian architecture and decor, it is a beautiful place to catch a film screening or go to a concert.

With over 3000 acres of ski terrain, it is great to try a variety of winter sports, from cross-country skiing to heli-skiing. Buttermilk is a popular region for skiing beginners whereas Aspen Mountain (Ajax) is thrilling for the advanced and expert skiers.
